Properties: | Colorless gas in appearance. Poisonous organic halide. Slightly insoluble in water, soluble in diethyl ether and benzene. Flammable and becomes explosive when in contact with air. Explosive limits 8.1%~17.2%. Can hydrolyze into formaldehyde when temperature is above 60℃. |
Usage: | The production of methyl chlorosilane, lead tetramethyl and methylcellulose. Occasionally used in the production of quatemary ammonium compounds and pesticides. Acts as a solvent in butyl rubber. |
